A friend re-posted an entry from "Fr. Z" today that equates gay people with pedophiles. Without evidence, mind you, but attempting to link them just the same.
When you start out with the idea that gay people support pedophilia, and that they are leading the charge to regularize it, I can't see the possibility of finding any common ground. You have closed off the means to have a conversation.
Pax et bonum
I'm gay. And a mom. And a struggling Catholic.
ReplyDeleteWhen folks equate being gay with being a pedophile, I don't know whether to get mad or just shake my head sadly.
This argument is usually made by people comparing gay marriage with adults marrying children. I've given up trying to have a constructive conversation with those folks...
It is nearly impossible to do. Big hugs, Katy.
DeleteI think you should be struggling with your gayness and not your Catholicism. It reads the same as; I am an alcoholic and a dad. And a struggling Catholic.
DeleteGay and Mom is the saddest thing I read all day.
Alcoholism does not equal homosexuality.
DeleteDoes it link gays to pedophiles? In a sense, yes. The normalization of homosexuality began the same way - reclassification, positive presentation...
ReplyDeleteAre there people, including those identifying as gays, supporting pedophilia? Yes, and it's not hard to find them. I've visited the website of the infamous NAMBLA and guess what? They demonstrate how the gay movement was connected to the pedophile circles. And who's campaigning most strongly in favor of lowering the age of consent? The gay activists such as Peter Tatchell. And, according to multiple sources, the father of the American gay movement Harry Hay publicly supported the NAMBLA. Just because you don't support it, at least for now, doesn't mean that others don't support it too.
And no, there's no common ground. But at least you have Radical Faeries - they should suit your needs and tastes way much better.
I can't help the seedy websites you frequent. God knows that I don't spend time there.
DeleteAnd, what does it prove?
DeleteYep. Because when you believe that crap and actually trust that it makes for a good argument, you are a moron who has not only lost the possibility for coherent thought, but has also stepped beyond the boundaries of civil society. I usually just say to such people "okay" and leave or if feeling particularly talkative will say "no, you're wrong, but I am not going to explain to you why because if you can't figure it out, there is no point" and move away. Sometimes I think one should still argue the point just to show them that what they are saying is NOT okay and acceptable in civilized society, but at this stage of my life, I have lost the patience. I feel like, hey, if believing that hateful stuff is the kind of thing that makes you sleep better at night, whatever!
ReplyDeletePart of my new plan for the new year is to escape that kind of negativity. Sounds like you're there, too. :)
DeleteYou know what, Thom, I believe you. But I swear to you every gay guy I've ever known has at one time or another quipped a joke, etc., about a cute young boy. It has always bothered me.
ReplyDeleteAsk many adult straight men and I guarantee you they heard the same sort of jokes about cute young girls. Regardless, gay or straight, those aren't the kinds of people I hang around with and consider friends. It's good to know you don't think I'm a pedophile. Warm fuzzies, and all of that.
DeleteNot that the plural of anecdote is data, but the gay people I know often talk about their latest trips to Home Depot. I guess we of that generation are getting to that age...
DeleteIndeed. I spend too much time at Target and karaoke.
DeleteHomosexuality and Pedophilia are linked because they are both perversions of what sexuality is for. It is for the union of man and woman within matrimony and begetting of Children. Homosexuality, pedophilia, bestiality, contraception are all the same; perversions contrary to God's plan for us. Anyone not married should be celibate. These matters have been settled by the Church.
DeleteI think Home Depot has a better inventory than Lowes. My favorite hardware store is actually ACE, because the stores are owned locally and the customer service is fantastic. Unfortunately I sometimes have to go to Home Depot because ACE doesn't have what I am looking for.
DeleteOne item that is especially tricky is sprinkler heads. The ones I bought at Home Depot (and used for the initial sprinkler project), are shorter than any other brands sprinkler head, so I am stuck using just one brand. Fortunately, they are plastic. Ironically, the metal sprinkler heads are a bad idea because of the damage they can do to your lawn mower. LOL, when I think about the number of times I have damaged a sprinkler head when mowing the lawn.
I bought my last iron at ACE (see they have more than hammers). I am always dropping my iron though, so I need to buy a new one. I need one that is damn near indestructible.
I'm about to embark on a project to repair the doorknobs. I don't want to replace them, because many of the knobs are original to the house, but they need repair to stay closed. I don't think there will be too much shopping required for that, since I was able to pick up a set of screwdrivers that are small enough for the job.
I haven't seen an Ace since moving back east. I wonder if they aren't a midwest/west coast thing?
DeleteWell, not pedophilia. But pederasty, yes. Historically that has been the dominant expression of homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you prove something with facts? Shame on you! ;P
DeleteI see no facts; I see an unsubstantiated claim.
DeleteYou can google it, if you want.
DeleteThom, hard to see when you are covering your eyes. Of course it has been the dominant expression of homosexuality through the centuries, as attested to in cultures across the globe. And it's still quite common today, which accounts for the "twink" and "daddies and sons" fixations in gay sexual culture and the longstanding efforts of homosexual activists to lower the age of consent. Honest gays like the late Gore Vidal freely acknowledge the tendency and wonder what all the fuss is about---that an older man with a teenage boy is a beautiful thing. And, you know, most non-Judeo-Christian cultures haven't had a problem with it historically.
Delete(this is James C; seems like I'm signed up on a different account on my laptop)
There seems to be a common fixation among heterosexual men towards young teenage girls. This is pretty common in both Christian and non-Chrisitan societies. Just take a look at all the cheerleader porn that litters the straight internet.
